Take a look at wotartist.com, an artist portal which was included in Time Magazine's 50 Best Websites of 2007.

Artists do not pay a fee to be included in the list-- instead, website submissions are reviewed and are either approved or denied.

Criteria for inclusion into the portal include a body of work judged to be of high quality and artists who seem to demonstrate a singular and genuine purpose for their work. Importantly, overtly commercial websites are excluded.
